Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I.
At their meeting on Wednesday 20th July, once the business had been concluded, the members congratulated Sally Palmer, their longest serving member of 70 years, and presented her with a framed certificate of service and a bouquet of flowers presented by President Ann Fraser.
The speaker this month was Michelle Jaafar who showed everyone how to make cooling punches in view of the hot weather we’re having at the moment. All members enjoyed sampling them. Also, Michelle showed members how to make individual summer pudding. All members had ago with great success and were able to take them home to enjoy later.
The group has set a date for the Annual August outing which has been confirmed as the 25th August at 7:00pm for a meal, venue yet to be confirmed.
New members and visitors are always welcome every 3rd Wednesday of the month at Sutton Village Hall, 7:15pm (summer), or 2:15pm (winter).
St Bartholomew’s Church
On Sunday 24th July, the 6th Sunday of Trinity, a “Songs of Praise” service was held at the local church. A service with a difference on this occasion, the songs selected were Congregation Favourites, which were warmly received by those present. The officiant once again was Lay Minister Joan Herrington, and the service commenced at the usual time of 9:30am. Readings from the Gospel: Luke 11: 1 – 13. Intercessions: Janet Webb. Organist: Geoff Webb.
Will Parishioners please note that there is no service taking place at St. Bartholomew’s on Sunday 31st July, but a Benefice Service will be held on Sunday 31st July at Bothamsall Church at 9:15am, during which “Holy Communion” will take place. You are invited to join them, everyone is welcome.
Toilet and Kitchen Update
The church is moving ever closer to raising the money needed for the installation of a toilet and kitchen to make the building more useful and inclusive for community events. So far, because of people’s generosity, £45,000 has been raised towards the target. Further fundraising activities are being planned as well as the church seeking funding from grants.
A special Just Giving site has been set up for anyone wishing to make a personal donation towards the project. Every penny counts and the church appreciates all donations large or small. If you would like to donate you can either click on the link below, or make a donation by cheque posting it to us, or handing it to one of the Churchwardens.
