Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I.

When the ladies of the local association met on Wednesday 21st September at Sutton Village Hall, the guest speaker for the evening was Mr Neil Curtis of the Curtis’s bakers and pie makers from Lincoln. Unfortunately, the demonstration of Pork Pie making had to be postponed on this occasion due to the unavailability of ingredients required for this task.

The disappointment ended there as the speaker adopted Plan B and told the ladies present the history and background of the family run business dating back many years up to and including present day. This was accompanied by a slide show presentation to depict the company’s many talents and production over this period. Some meat samples were available during the evening including Haslet, Chickling and other old time favourites, perhaps not so popular these days, but remembered by most from years gone by. A very interesting and informative talk, enjoyed by those present.

Will members please note that the meeting times will change and will revert to winter times as from next meeting scheduled for Wednesday 19th October. The group will then meet at the same venue, but at the earlier time of 2:15pm in the afternoon. Members old and new always welcome.

New members and visitors are always welcome every 3rd Wednesday of the month at Sutton Village Hall, 7:15pm (summer), or 2:15pm (winter).

St Bartholomew’s Church

Toilet and Kitchen Update

The church is moving ever closer to raising the money needed for the installation of a toilet and kitchen to make the building more useful and inclusive for community events. So far, because of people’s generosity, £45,000 has been raised towards the target. Further fundraising activities are being planned as well as the church seeking funding from grants.

A special Just Giving site has been set up for anyone wishing to make a personal donation towards the project. Every penny counts and the church appreciates all donations large or small. If you would like to donate you can either click on the link below, or make a donation by cheque posting it to us, or handing it to one of the Churchwardens.
