Local Election for Sutton Ward

A local by-election is scheduled to take place in the village on Thursday 24th November, following the resignation of former Conservative District Councillor Denis Depledge due to ongoing health and personal reasons. Candidates for both Labour and Conservative are contesting the vacant seat and have been canvassing the village over the last two weeks, doorstep calling and by leaflet drops outlining their plans for the future of the villages involved. The choice is yours; please don’t waste your vote.

Sutton and Barnby Moor Gardening Club

Steve Routledge was the speaker when the club met at Barnby Moor village hall on Tuesday 1st November. Steve and his wife Paula run a gardening centre called Flora Media based at Caunton in Nottinghamshire. The subject of the talk on this occasion was the taking of cuttings and pruning, a subject close to every gardeners’ heart. A variety of plants were on display, some for sale, some used in a pruning exercise later as the talk progressed. The speaker explained in general about pruning and told that hard pruning will not harm the plant but may restrict flowering the following season. Pruning of fruit trees were also demonstrated on the night, with help from the audience, and a question-and-answer session ensued during the proceedings. A very informative talk with members gathering a lot of information and confidence as the advice given was clear and positive and seemed to be absorbed by those present, thanks to the efforts of the speaker Steve Routledge.

The next meeting of the gardening club will be held on Tuesday 6th December and will be a Christmas workshop. Further details available from gardeningclub@suttoncumlound.net

A special Just Giving site has been set up for anyone wishing to make a personal donation towards the project. Every penny counts and the church appreciates all donations large or small.
