Meet, Greet and Eat

Yes we are talking about Meet the Neighbours group, who will be meeting again next Monday 20th February 2023. The last meeting was a poorly attended event, many regular attenders unaware the sessions had started again, others were double booked or busy attending appointments, usual stuff, Hospital, Doctors, Dentists Opticians, etc. So, you have the next dates, please make a note to attend after that it becomes a habit, a good one of course when once again you can Meet the Neighbours and join your peers for afternoon tea at the village hall, after all, it is free! Courtesy of the village hall committee!

District Councillor

The District Councillor for Sutton Ward Darrell Pulk can be contacted by email darrell.pulk@cllr.bassetlaw.gov.uk or by Mobile 07778 792320 at any reasonable time.

When the District Councillor held the first of his monthly surgeries in Sutton Village Hall, there were three residents in attendance on the day (Saturday 28th January) with your Councillor available from 9:00am to 10:00am. The Councillor was able to advise the residents who had various issues and concerns with none of the three connected in any way, but of course confidential. Watch out for the next surgery when you can seek advice from your Councillor, a Saturday morning well spent, with advice freely given.

The councillor has also been busy attending a planning application regarding the local Public House in the village, The Gate Inn, when he addressed the committee along with members of the Parish Council, highlighting the case against acceptance. Neither the applicant nor their representative attended the meeting. Other issues under review at the moment by your councillor, are increased incidents of dog fouling in the area, speeding issues, highway cleaning after agricultural work or building works in general taking place in the area.

Parish Council

Parish Council Meeting

The meeting of the council that was scheduled for Wednesday 8th February 2023 went ahead as planned. Commencing at the usual time of 7:00pm.

Most agenda items were covered in detail and details are available on the website.

The Highlight of the night was the election of two new residents to the Council. Chairman Tomas Torstensson was pleased to welcome New Councillors Laura Palmer and Olivia Dashpet and invite them to take their places on the bench. Congratulations both.

Gardening Club

The meeting of the Sutton and Barnby Moor gardening club took place on Tuesday 7th February 2023 at Barnby Moor village hall at the usual time of 7:00pm. On this occasion, Dave Newman addressed the members on “Life in a Victorian garden. Dave and his wife Jane are no strangers to the club, having addressed the members many times before under the banner Sage Gardeners. Dave covered the life in a Victorian garden, from the head gardener to the most junior members of staff, and the pecking order and the perks and gratuities associated with each rank or station reached over the years. Once again a very informative talk, relayed in the usual high standard with a bit of humour thrown in. A question-and-answer session followed, and members were pleased with the outcome on the night.
