Lunches for Locals

A quiet reminder that a group of new volunteers are re-launching Meet the Neighbours. The new group will be known as Lunches for Locals and the first get-together will be in the Village Hall on Thursday 21st March 2024 at 1:00pm. A licensed bar will be open from 12:45pm. The first menu on offer will be homemade chicken and leek pie with roast potatoes and locally produced vegetables, dessert will be lemon drizzle with cream. All this for only £10.00 per person.

Why not come along and meet friends old and new in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For anyone new to the village, this is a great way to meet your neighbours and find out all that goes on in and around the village.

To book your place, either email lfl@suttonvillagehall.net or call (01777) 854 410 and leave your contact details on our answerphone.

A significant number of villagers and friends have already booked, and the event is gathering momentum.

Remember, numbers are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!

Litter Pick

As part of Bassetlaw District Council’s Spring Clean 2024 event, the Parish Council are once again organising a Community Litter Pick to take place on Saturday 23rd March 2024 from 10:00am.

As in previous years all the necessary equipment, gloves, litter pickers, high visibility vests and rubbish bags, will be provided on the day.

Following the litter pick, Bassetlaw District Council will collect all the bagged rubbish and any other items that we may come across.

Anyone wishing to take part in this event can register their interest by calling (01777) 854 445 and leaving their name and contact details.

Everyone who joins in will receive complimentary refreshments in the Village Hall at the end of the event.

If you want to help make your local area a nicer place to live, then why not do your bit by joining in.

Pizza Night

Wallace & Dough brought their Wood Fired Pizza van to the Village Hall on Friday 8th March 2024from 5:15pm to 7:15pm as scheduled. They thank villagers for their support. Consensus of opinion in the village, good food, well worth the wait. Looking forward to next visit!

Gardening Club

The Gardening Club met as scheduled on Tuesday 5th March 2024. This was the groups’ A.G.M. and included a plant sale.   Refreshments and nibbles were also available on the night. Chairperson Jenny Bailey welcomed members and guests to the meeting!  Four prospective new members present on the night, making a total of 34 people in attendance, with apologies for those unable to attend the event due to outstanding commitments and seasonal ailments taking their toll. Reports were received from the Chair and Treasurer. All officers stood down and six of the seven committee members were re-elected en-bloc.; there were no volunteers on the night for the position of Programme Secretary and therefore there remains a vacancy on the committee. Frank Bradley was thanked for his role in keeping media outlets up to date with the club’s activities and has volunteered to continue in this role, which is very much appreciated. During a period of socialisation, a consensus of opinions indicated that the success of the club and the increase in membership is due wholly to the efforts and input of the committee under the chairmanship of Jenny Bailey, with support from Retford Life Magazine and Retford Times. A great social event bringing the rural communities together in a pleasant atmosphere, with many close friendships being formed. You are welcome to join them.
