VILLAGE SPEEDWATCH: Concerns have been voiced over the speed of vehicles both within and passing through the village. Some years ago a system was set up in the village to allow residents to operate their own Speedwatch system complete with speed gun, after full training had been given.
Due to changes in Police personnel and unavailability of equipment the system failed to get off the ground at that time. The system is being operated successfully in neighbouring villages that have issues with speeding and is manned by volunteers.
If you have concerns with this issue and can spare a couple of hours per month, you can assist your local Parish Council by volunteering your services and could ultimately save lives.
Would ideally suit retired people, male or female who care about Road safety in the village.
Further details are available from the Clerk to the Council on 01777 948 320.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association held their monthly meeting on Tuesday 27th March at the usual time of 2:30pm. The venue on this occasion was 55 Station Road in the village. The following items came under discussion:
- New play area installed at the rear of the Village Hall: The Police informed the group of reports of Anti-social behaviour at the new play park, which was still under construction. When they visited the area persons present were polite and cooperative and had just gathered there to chat. Several visits have taken place since and nothing untoward was taking place. Officers will continue to monitor the situation.
- Crime reports indicated that Police were investigating an incident of theft in the Portland Place area of the village. Police investigating scrap dealers making calls in the village led to the apprehension of persons involved, who were collecting scrap unlawfully.
- The local beat manager PC Steve Bolstridge is intending to operate a speed deterrent scheme in the village during the month of April.
Matters Arising from last meeting:
- With reference to Councillor Yates concerns about insufficient information to householders about contacting Trading Standards, the group were pleased to learn, that member David Mowthorpe had printed and distributed this information on a postcard to the whole village. Mrs Yates and the members congratulated David for his efforts and enthusiasm which was done at his own expense. This item was raised at previous meetings and has now been dealt with in a satisfactory manner. This information has been included in the Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Association news letter “Watchword” and also appears in the local village publication “Sutton Spotlight”.
- No information regarding Trust a Trader, or Buy with Confidence documents had been received as yet.
The chairman reminded members of the date for the association’s AGM, Tuesday 15th May 2012 in Sutton Village Hall. Some speakers have already been approached and agreed to attend and will address the gathering on the night.
The necessary paper work is being prepared, and the village will be circulated nearer the time The Chairman asked for a police presence at the meeting.

The community garden was visited by all the school to do some “Spring Planting”.
To support Sports Relief the children, Staff and some family members ran and walked a mile around the school grounds. They managed to raise the fantastic sum of £100.
