ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: This coming Sunday, 20th March, is Palm Sunday and A Family Service will take place at the local church.

The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

SUTTON AND LOUND: An Illustrated History of Sutton & Lound; The booklet was first published in 1969 By Christopher Morton, a son of the then Parish vicar. With the kind support of community grants from our District and County Councillors the 40 page booklet is available once again. It has been retyped, printed and spiral bound and, with the support of the original author, has one or two small additions. The cost depends on demand and we are aiming to charge £3 minimum per copy – a bargain for a history going back to the Domesday Book. If you give more than £3 this will go towards the printing of additional copies and a donation of all the profits to Bassetlaw Hospice.

If you would like to order a copy based on this charge please provide your name, address and phone number either by email to djmow@siewndavid.plus.com or in writing – The Gate Inn bar staff and the Post Office staff in the Village Hall both hold an inspection copy and have a list to which you can add your details.

Another opportunity to inspect the booklet will be at the next Saturday morning Coffee & Cakes on 9 April from 10:00 to 12:00 noon.

SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The Club got off to a good 2016 start with 22 participants at the pub quiz at The Gate Inn early in January. The first talk of the year, in February was given by John Stirland – ‘Understanding seeds, fertilizers and manure’ was very informative even after 40 years pottering in my garden. 20 members and 6 visitors benefited from John’s vast knowledge and experience.

In March, Stuart Dixon, the horticultural lecturer and broadcaster gave an extensive talk on Roses and Clematis, with the majority of his photographs taken from his large garden which he developed from a ‘wasteland’ over 20 years ago.

In the next three months we have talks by two experts and the AGM:

  • Tuesday 5 April: Propagation Workshop by Chrissy Grindel
  • Tuesday 3 May: Pride in the Fall by Gail Summerfield (Westshore Nurseries)
  • Tuesday 17 May: Annual General Meeting / Social
Wine / soft drinks and nibbles available. Annual membership fee payable. Members potted plants for sale. All Welcome including non-members – no charge made.

Why not come along to a meeting and see if you wish to join or just attend the occasional event?

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Meet the Neighbours has continued to meet in The Gate Inn at 1:00pm on the second Tuesday of the month. The first meeting of 2016 was on Tuesday 12 January at 1:00pm when 49 people attended. Most people appear to be thirsty and arrive 15 to 20 minutes early! We have an email list to keep participants and others informed of the meetings and the food to be served, etc. – if you wish to be added to the list then send an email to mtn@suttoncumlound.net or ring Joan Reiter on 702 137 – it is best to book for each meeting so that the chef prepares sufficient food to the budget – currently £5.00 per person. Most people book at the previous meeting, but if you didn’t please email or phone to keep the team informed.

Average attendance is around the 40 mark each month and at the last meeting on 8th March an excellent Lasagne was enjoyed by one and all. On the 12th April we will be having Sausage and Mash – the Gate Inn has a new source of really great sausages!
