ST BARTHOLOMEWS’ CHURCH
On Sunday 28th July (sixth Sunday after Trinity) the service will be “Worship for All” and will commence at the later time of 4:00pm. You are invited to come along and join in, everybody is welcome.
GARDENING CLUB
Please note that there is no meeting of the club for the month of August at Barnby Moor village hall On the due date the club will be having an “away day” for which an outing to Harlow Car has been arranged. The trip to Harlow Carr-a 29 seater coach has now been booked and confirmed for Tuesday 6th August 2019, and Harlow Carr’s meet and greet team know to expect us on that day. 15 members have said they will come definitely with a possible 23 members wishing to attend (hence the size of coach booked). There is no cost to members for this trip (apart from your own foods/refreshments on the day). There is a Betty’s café on site and gift shops in addition to the gardens.
Please can you confirm to the chair Jenny Bailey whether you will be going on the trip. The coach will leave Kettlewells at 9:00am sharp on 6th August. There is car parking on site so please ensure you arrive at 8:45am. The address for parking is: Grove Street Retford DN22 6LA. Those in need of a lift / car-share please let the chair know ASAP.

AT THE CREASE
Will you be there, at the annual cricket match at Barnby Moor? The annual cricket match between The White Horse Public House and Ye Olde Bell Hotel will be held on Sunday the 18th August 2019 in Barnby Moor playing field starting at about 3:30pm. Who will you support? This is a fun event so why not bring a picnic and make it enjoyable family afternoon. It’s a date for your diary – don’t miss it.
CHURCH SERVICE
“A Family Service” took place at the local church on Sunday 21st. The service was conducted by Worship Leader Janet Webb. Readings from the Gospel were voiced by Fiona Pagdin.
PARISH LUNCHES
The Parish Lunch took place on Friday 19th July at the Gate Inn at 12:00noon when a group of 15 people joined their peers for a communal lunch. A small contribution is made to the current building fund after each lunch session.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS
The neighbours group met on Wednesday 17th when July Joan Reiter and her team were on hand to welcome diners to the event. A good turn out on this occasion as a group of 50 people were in attendance and were served a mouth-watering treat on the day prepared by local chef and caterer Nigel Bower. After enjoying an excellent meal, diners were served tea and coffee, during which the customary raffle took place, conducted by draw master Fred Payne.
Will members of the neighbours group please note that there is no meeting of the group in August. Group organiser Joan Reiter and her band of willing volunteers will be on hand in September offering more good food and good company. You are invited to join them. Details to follow when to hand.
SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.
When the ladies of the local Women’s Institute held their meeting at 7:15pm on Wednesday 17th July 2019 in Sutton Village Hall. The speaker was Steve Short who told the membership the story of Jasper Maskelyne, the War Magician whose efforts helped influence the outcome of WW2, putting his knowledge and use of camouflage into practice, just as a magician would use sleight of hand and eye contact to make audiences believe what they were seeing was real and genuine, Jasper used similar practices to fool the enemy on various occasions during conflicts of the war. Steve, on the night also amused the ladies with several tricks and anecdotes during his performance and left the group amazed and mystified as to how they were done with the audience in close proximity, some even helping the maestro on the night.
The entertainer, who has appeared on Television in series such as Heartbeat and Coronation Street, has covered a wide variety of topics and talks in detail of the history of a well known fifties favourite magician David Nixon, funny man Norman Wisdom being another. Tales of the late Tommy Cooper and even stories of Morcambe and Wise are part of this talented mans varied and most interesting repertoire. Well worth a second visit.
QUIZ NIGHT
The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
